THE DEFENDER
The Land Rover Defender (initially called the Land Rover Ninety and Land Rover One Ten) is a British four-wheel-drive off-road utility vehicle developed from the original Land Rover Series launched in 1948. It sports a classic design following on from it's heritage with the old series Land Rovers. The designers using a simple design shape that you get when you give a 5 year old crayons and ask them to draw a car. Add to this the traditional Land Rover ethos that if it ain't broke put bits on it that will and you have a classic modern day brick that is extremely remarkable off road is very reliable and true to this will reliably shed door seals and other bits of trim which were held on with toffee and chewing gum.
The model was introduced in 1983 as the Land Rover Ninety and the Land Rover One Ten, in 1989, a third model was brought out by Land Rover to be produced in parallel with the other two: the Discovery To avoid possible confusion, because LR owners are easily confused apparently, from 1991 the Ninety and the One Ten were renamed the Defender 90 and Defender 110. Throughout the 1990s the vehicle attempted to climb more and more upmarket by using proper glue instead of chewing gum and adding shiny bits, while remaining true to its working roots, meaning it will work but it will also stop working for no apparent reason.
The defender is often refered to as the Defener due to it's specially designed soundproofing that requires a megaphone to talk to the front seat passenger at speed. Some people often try to talk to the rear seat passengers and their voice box breaks and they become mute. This is not all bad however because if you are carrying a passenger in the rear seats on a long enough journey to get the Defender up to speed it is likely that you hate this person already and don't really want to talk to them, otherwise why would you have subjected them to such abject discomfort in the first place

There has been talk lately of replacing the Defender with a vehicle called the DC100 which means Defender Concept 100 inch wheel base. Landrover have faithfully tried with this car to stick with the crayons for designing it but unfortunately someone let an 'art student' (which of course means a talentless person who wasn't bright enough to get into real courses) loose on the design and they ended up with something that looks a bit like a Skoda Yeti on steroids. This wasn't popular with the traditional Defender owners who tend to hang out in fields, say 'arr' a lot and chew grass. The general thinking being that if they wanted to look like a complete arse they would have bought a Range Rover Sport. Land Rover have quietly taken this point on board and are currently hiding under their desks sulking and refusing to show anyone their new design.
